UPDATED BUTTON PICS

An old friend was in town today and we met up for an old game we used to play.
He told me to pick out one of the hardest hit places in the area. You know, the
one that's "hunted out"? That park that almost nobody goes to except newbies that
don't know any better? LOL

It also has to be a place with at the barest minimum, a "chance" that something older might
turn up.

So, we went. The object of the game? Not the most in amount, not silver/gold, not the most expensive.
But, the oldest! (It's a good challenging game. It makes one have to really concentrate on what the detector
is saying.)

Time limit was 1 hour.

He got quite a bit of clad, mostly new drops. But, when I showed him mine, he just grumbled.
(he was seething! I'd beat him again, he has NEVER beat me. LOL )

Here's my take:

2014 (320).webp
2014 (321).webp
2014 (322).webp2014 (323).webp

Yep, I EVEN scored a whole wheat toast.
AND, that is QUITE the accomplishment in this place. LOL
But, it wasn't the oldest thing, at least, I don't think it so. :dontknow:

2014 (324).webp2014 (325).webp

It's a button, I'm pretty sure it's old. This is what I started with before trying to clean.

2014 (326).webp2014 (327).webp2014 (328).webp2014 (329).webp2014 (330).webp2014 (331).webp

It's non-magnetic, weighs in at a fairly hefty 8.5 grams. I'm not sure if I'm seeing ANY patterns emerging.

Thought I'd let you guys peek and suggest. I'm just not sure if anything further is going to prove worthwhile.
I'm thinking of a bit of soap and water next. Any ideas?

Then, there was this bit of strangeness.

2014 (332).webp

This is the way this came out of the hole. Together, just like that!
Just a zincoln, but, what the heck is the other piece? :dontknow:

2014 (333).webp2014 (334).webp
Smooth on both sides. I believe copper.
2014 (335).webp
A bit of substance to it but.... :dontknow: LOL

Anyway, my friend congratulated me on picking a park that truly had "nothing" left! LOL
I'm not an ogre though, we're planning on meeting up tomorrow and I'm going to surprise him
with a trip to "my" mansion. I KNOW he'll appreciate that, even if nothing is found.

Thanks for stopping by!

Nothing like a challenge! what machine is your friend using? And good on ya for having patience in public parks/schools. The past two times i got out started at parks and the constant chatter and pulltabs / canslaw drove me insane after 5 minutes. The one place literally looked like people fed cans into a tree shredder lol

Cjon, you may as well get used to the chatter for a few months. The cornfields will soon be off limits until fall. We will just have to endure the canslaw, young ladies in various levels of dress and the creepy person sleeping on the park bench with the shopping cart, lol.

Looks like Blingie found a friend!
You play a fierce game of detect'n! And your friend comes back for more! Good thing he's a good sport!
I'd wish you luck but it seems unfair some how, so I hope you both have a great time!
Maybe you should do a "who makes the strangest find"

Yeah, Blingie's in a world of his own right now. LOL

Funny you should mention the oddest find. We've actually done that before too. He even mentioned that my odd shaped token would've won that as well. :)

Thanks!

A spark plug "gapper" would be different thicknesses all the way around and probably have the thickness of each side designated on it.

WHADIFIND,

Oh, I originally meant that I didn't think that it was a gap gauge as a few people suggested. I wasn't very complete on this message.

I don't even know what a golf token is, lol.

You and me both, Point! They won't allow me to swing a detector or wet a hook in the ponds, so why go?:dontknow:
As they say~~~Golf is just a long nice walk spoiled by a little white ball:tongue3:

My teenage son worked at a golf course for 2 years. Some folks would spend all day, every day, chasing a little white ball and I asked him why. He told me that if it wasn't for the alcohol and all the alcohol induced betting, that they would go out of business.

Aw, don't be too harsh on them Golfer's. I imagine there's lots of people who love to go hunting them golfs. Don't see why they hunt with clubs though. There's so many ways to shoot them nowadays.

Husband: (getting home from golf): "Hi hon! I'm home!"

Wife: "Hi sweetheart! How'd you make out today?"

Husband: "I did GREAT! I broke a hundred!!!! "

Wife: "WOW!! That's a LOT of clubs!"

Barumpbump. ;)

It's been suggested that this button comes from circa 1760. I have no reason to doubt that's true.

So, I figured this button, after being buried more than 250 years deserves at least a little respect
in trying to identify.

So, here's the after cleaning pics. (I'll be posting them to the "What Is It" forum as well.)

There is some sort of pattern on this button, unless my eyes are just fooling me. :dontknow:

I've captured many angles, orientations and different wet/dryness factors.

If you like puzzles, have fun! :)

I'm really not expecting much, so don't fret. This is probably just a civilian flowered button. ;)

Two old friends getting out and detecting and having fun. That's great. Nice finds, also.

That really is an incredible old button. Every angle gave me a different thought though. Everything from a sun to a sunflower to an Indian bust, lol. I am leaning toward a sunflower though. Congrats.

are yous using the same detector
