Headed to Destin/Fort Walton....

I'm still quite a newbie at Mding...so I'm trying my luck out on the beaches now. Just Mded a small beach at a lake near my parents home...found a few coins, was alot of fun testing the MD there. My 14 yr. old daughter loved it...she says it is so much easier to dig!

Anyway, considering I'm so GREEN--we are headed to Destin/Fort Walton in July...what should I plan for? Are there any laws and regulations I should know about? Have any of you scanned the beaches there? If so, any suggestions?

If you are going to stay in the dry sand, get a sand scoop, or make one out of a contatier. it will help sift the sand, and make things much faster and better. good hunting Gayle

There was a MD shop in Fort Walton in the back of a rug and tile store. The gentlemen that owned both stores had quite a collection of rigs and jewelry to include a College SEC Ring. Nice folks too. That was in 1995 when I was there last so he may no longer be there, but it will be worth checking out. Good luck

Also, don’t dig on or above the dunes. State park beaches require permission from the office first, they have special regulations when they allow hunting.

I hunt these beaches all summer. They are very nice and pretty clean. The dry sand is full of beer cans and all sorts of metal trash. But there are also lost coins and rings as well. I prefer to hunt in the water but have tried my luck in the sand with good results. Are you using a water machine?
