I was able to get out and do a little detecting this morning and had my first heart pumping moment. After digging alot of junk metal on the back and sides of the church house I decided to walk to the front and walk the grass out towards the road from the front door. More square nails and a few pennies later I was digging and out popped something I was not expecting.

I had also mentioned a door knob that that I had found last week. it was a little strange at first because I had been cutting through roots and then I see this very shiny wood looking thing, it threw me off for a minute because i tapped it with my digging tool and it sounded like glass. I finally had it out of the ground and was shocked at the condition the mable knob was in even as deep in the ground as it was. I have cleaned the metal post portion as much as I am comfortable with.

very nice it may have been a tavern before a church, or a shooting range

Looking at the Maryland property tax data the church was built in 1834 and the house that is the church office was built 1900.... they are right across the street from each other. I have not found any information as to what may have been there before the house. Now, I do know that confederate soldiers marched right through this area on their way to Gettysburg.

Nice digs, love the doorknob. :icon_thumleft: I've eyeballed a white one while MDing and had a friend give me a black one he dug. Very cool.

I believe the doorknob is call "Rockinghamware". It was used beginning about 1840. It is ceramic.

The door knob is one of my favorite finds so far. LOL i think just because it seemed like an odd find..... To me atleast.

As far as the bullet goes, I could not find one like this one with a single ring around the it. I am just not sure how to figure out its possible age.
