The owner of this sent me an email a few minutes ago and said that someone he sent the pictures to also stated that they thought it was a WW2 Pendant so you might be on the right track. The owner also said that it looked like it would open but he could never find if it actually did. He is in the process of dividing this stuff to their Grand-daughters and is trying to give them as much history as he can. Thank you for the reply..,Chris

Concur with the "Sweetheart Pendant" identification. We, being military personnel, have been giving things like this to our wives, girlfriends, sweethearts, kids, parents etc, for a long time. Cool thing is, you can purchase the modern version of these in the Base Exchange to this day.

For some it was like a promise ring, or akin to giving a girl your soriety pin or your class ring. Back when things like this meant a lot to the person receiving it.

I'm thinking it's the center section of a WWII sweetheart bracelet.

Definitely a bracelet, as Matt mentioned. It would have had an expansion (flexible) band like the one below. There’s something about it that looks newer than WWII era to me... but I can always be wrong. (Example is just showing what the little pieces on the side are for)

The eagle looks like it was added later. Different material and it's crooked. I say homemade gift. Gary

Or could be that the US Army emblem was added in country. IE GI takes an already existing pendant, takes it to the local Jewler and has them add the US Army eagle. The Vietnamese were modifying a lot of pre-existing items for GIs. I have a Zippo lighter my dad brought back from Vietnam that the engraving on it is off centered.

When things are done by hand versus a computerized engraver etc, then the possibility exists that not everything is perfectly aligned and squared.
