Hey guys,
Dug this pistol at the last DIV, mixed in with a bunch of Gardners, Ringtails, and Teardrops. (And a few Confederate buttons although not dug by me but I did get to watch my old man dig a nice little VA cuff) I tried like hell to find the barrel with no luck...I cannot seem to find a match for this anywhere. Checked all the books I have (admittedly not as many on guns as I should have in my arsenal I suppose) Also searched online to no avail...
I really like this piece a ton and would love to figure out what it is. Figured there's no one better at the gift of ID'ing things on the internet than y'all here!
Thanks a lot for your help!!

SMRH ~

I have been exchanging emails with Marshall Trimble who in turn has been communicating with gun expert Frank Cutler.

The following is from Frank via Marshall ...

Marshall;

I may have to eat my words. The more my buddy and myself along with one other gun nut friend of mine have studied that photo and did some match ups, we now believe that frame is not a LeMatt. We noticed on the frame that there really is no cylinder cut out and have come to the conclusion without being able to see the other side of that frame that this is a single shot pistol maybe percussion or flint lock. We need to see a photo of the other side to be able to tell. I love historical mysteries, that is why I spent so much time with this. As of now I don't think its a revolver. For a while we thought it was a very rare English Witton Bros.Tranter percussion pistol but the frame is too long in front of the trigger guard. The Witton, LeMatt and the Lefaucheux have much in common but none have that long frame in front of the guard. Can your friend send you a photo of the other side?

Frank

I'll take another look at the pictures and see if the other side is shown. If not, maybe you can post one. Then I'll send it to Marshall who will send it to Frank.

Thanks.

Bob

I'm not sure how I missed this post? ??? I just came back to check this thread as I have spent some fresh time searching today and could't come up with anything new... I was looking at different pinfires today that are close... And a wheel-lock seems to have a close angle. I have pretty much come to the conclusion that this has to be some sort of single shot. Maybe even a double barrel pinfire as I have seen some in my searching that are close. But I have been slowly getting it cleaned up. I would be happy to post more pictures! What exactly does he need? Thanks so much for your help again Bob and everyone else!
