Anyone know what this is? The translucent areas are black when not lit. I am fascinated by this.

The dark/black areas are places on the stone that do not have the coating/varnish or it is very thin. It is obviously a translucent mineral that allows the light to show through it. Somebody may be able to identify from the limited data, but for me more information is needed. To start, where did you find it?
