Looking to see if anyone knows if this is a rosette and from what era. Cannot find another like it. It is 1 and 3/4" with seated liberty in the center. No writing anywhere. Feels like made of lead....kinda heavy. Found at 1840s school house upstate NY. Thanks

I can't quite make out the design in the center. Can you tell us what that is? Thanks

It took me a moment to see that, as stated, it's a variation of the seated liberty, with the coin shown for comparison. Not exactly like on the coin, and lacking detail, so I understand the question.
If not a rosette, maybe a buckle?

The seated liberty design is designed after the goddess of liberty. There are many different designs of her. Standing, walking, seated, bust veiw, and others. How much does this weigh? is it heavy like cast brass? And does it seem to have been lead filled? I ask because I'm curious to this piece maybe being a brooch or jewelry of some sort. Maybe decorative furniture adornment.

Hmmm.. I am just not seeing a Lady Liberty. I see a figure and an X , but not Lady Liberty?? My eyes as well as brain must be foggy!

Perhaps a clock pendulum? Dusting it with flour and wiping off the high spots may bring out the detail.

Another thing... If it is the godess of liberty as on the seated coins and such. Then the sheild is something I'm quite certain was added to the United States designs. So that may or may not help with its origin.
