Well I'm about 60 percent done with this site I'm searching on. Very happy with the finds so far. Still trying to piece together what was going on 225+ years ago on this relatively small field.

I wanted to ask if anyone can identify the marking on this item I uncovered a couple days ago. Not sure what this is (and almost tossed it until I saw the crown?) and it could answer some of the questions I have. image.jpg image.jpg

I know it's not much to go on, but I wanted to try. The part the crown is on is non magnetic (brass?). The material under it is magnetic metal. Now I'm assuming its a crown, but flip it upside down and it looks like an owl... To me anyway! Lol!

Here's the whole find so far. image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

It is the British Royal crown mark, frequently seen on British-made padlock keyhole brass covers from the 1700s through the very-early 1900s.
