Help identifying brass braided item and buckle please

I found a couple item at a cellar hole that I need help from the experts? The rich orange civilian buttons seem to be mid 1800's? The other items were nearby and curious about what the braided (brass) wire item would be used for? and any info on the buckle (no markings on either side)?

Really green still, but the detecting bug has hit this feller hit hard......

Really appreciate any thoughts and wisdom you all may have!

Cheers, Lavarock

Nice finds--I'm jealvious. :icon_biggrin:

Buttons are especially nice because they're readable.

The braided piece looks to me like a woman's hair thingy (not exactly a barrette, but similar?) BICBW.

Agree, buttons likely first quarter 19th century. Buckle has a nice shape and is robust. Hard to tell its age. Looks like it could be put back in service.

Looking at buckle more closely, I notice it is asymmetrical so appears hand formed. Thinking fairly modern made perhaps in the Far East. But I am not a buckle expert, so keep investigating.

It's very much like some I had--and some I still have--from the 70s, but likely from other periods as well.

It appears to me that the tine is missing, but I may see marks indicating there was one.

I've seen similar at recent craft/memorabilia shows. What is the inside measurement of the buckle (where the leather strap would go)? ~2"?
