Help on confederate coat button and revolver

Need some expertise forum. His coat button looks like a large 8. Could it be regimental? I didn't think the south used regimental buttons unless they were left overs from the Revolutionary War? Is that a colt dragoon? Help needed

It could be? If you look at the upper button it does show a what looks like a C
