Found this bead around shards and am wondering if it's really handmade because of it's shape? It is glassy....coral? Thanks for the help! RSCN3373.webpRSCN3374.webpRSCN3375.webpRSCN3376.webp

That is a glass faceted trade bead made in Bohemia around 1500 to 1600 are so(I'm not real sure of the date due to the color)I have some clear ones that was brought into this area by the De Soto exploration in 1554. They where sold to the Spanish and French and they traded them to Native Americans. That's a real good find Kat, you sure have a nice site.:icon_thumleft:

Really?...had no idea...wow...thanks for the surprising info monsterrack. Have you ever posted the ones you have? Hey..."you" have a nice site with all of your great finds! :icon_thumright:

I found one of those "Russian Blue" faceted beads.. nice find kat.

Thanks for the site Outlaw, will read it! :) And monsterrack your clear ones are shaped like the one I have! Thanks for sharing them & telling me what I had!!! Also GatorBoy...yours are very pretty to...although that black one sort'a looks like insect larva ;)...lol Maybe should post an up close one of that!

It's your thread kat... but I assure you its a bead lol.

Yes GatorBoy I believe you...was just teasing you on that...;)

I think girls that like artifacts and rocks are COOL!

''Monsterrack'' gave you the right information, but if I am right the color of yours is not that common.

Here is a photo of one of my multi-faceted Rusian Blue. (center of photo, and to the left is a black one)

:)...well thank you rock, maybe it's the "native" side of me.....would rather have a neat "rock" than something store bought! Those are some pretty beads you have there old digger....dumb me, I thought because it was "faceted" it must be modern....still learning and hopefully will never stop!

Old Digger is right that color is very rare, that is a great find Kat and I would be back at that site sifting some dirt or sand. If its sand that would be so easy to find stuff, with sand you can move a lot of material real fast, thur a screen.:occasion14:

...cough, cough...it's dirty dirt! That little itty bitty tiny thing...rare eh? Maybe should make a ring, nope cancel that, would be to afraid of losing it.....how do you guys "show" your beads?

I keep some on leather string and wear them sometimes, others I have in Riker frames, others are on string and hang for display. If that was my bead I would put it on a chain and wear it.

I would not string it, I would put it in a frame with a few of your other better finds.

My bead cache has dwindled some due to some sharing, but it has been an honor. I just keep mine locked up for the time being. I gave a string of 3000 seed beads (two blue, two white, two pink) to my aunt, but during her passing they seemed to have vanished.

would love to see a pic of a "seed bead" never heard of them before..

As the name implies seed beads are very small but not normally actually made from seeds.
They are simply very small glass trade beads.
This one I found seems to be made from an actual seed.

wow Thnx digger. I have passed up all kinds of glass beads thinking the were more modern. Lots of the hills I hunt here were at one time old homesteads and have lots of misc. materials mixed in with the artifacts. Guess I better start picking them up!!
View attachment 916521 Seed beads are the small colored ones that are strung.
