Help please

Newbie here. Any help appreciated. Found this a few weeks ago on a homesite that was gone by 1955 maps. Believe it was a watch fob but not sure. Why the hole? Believe it is brass or copper.

Welcome to Tnet.

Agree it's a watch-fob. Looks like it once had a semi-precious cabochon set into it. maybe a piece of turquoise, agate or something similar. The setting doesn't look right for a cut and faceted stone.
