Looks like it was hinged. Maybe a watch? It sure looks interesting. When in doubt check it with a magnet. Cool find nontheless! 8-)

That'd be my guess. The bezel for some type of guage. The arrows indicating the range field, similar to the red lines on this a/c pressure gauge-

or the yellow ones on this compass-

When you are logged in and reading a post, you should see a RED Like on the right side of the reply you are reading, just click that and you'll be logged as liking it!
