Metal Detecting
I was detecting tonight and found what I have to think is my first gold find! It has a green gem and two markings on the back, one marking is 18K which I assume is 18 Karat gold and the other mark appears to say 12F, it's either 12F or 12E but I am leaning towards 12F. I have no idea what this means or what type of gem this might be. Any info would be greatly appreciated. If this question is better suited under a different forum topic let me know. If you need additional pics let me know and I'll do my best. This is by far my best find so far! Thanks for any help!

I myself would take it to a jeweler and have them check it out.The stone could be peridot or emerald its to hard to tell from pictures only.

The marks say 18k (above) and 925 (below). You have a bi metal earring made of gold and silver.

The beads and the basil ring on the earring are 18k gold, the rest of it is 925 silver, nice find. When I find items like that I separate the gold from the silver and then the silver goes in the silver poke and the gold goes in its poke.

Okay, me being the female here...that is not an earring, but it belongs on a necklace in my way of thinking.

It's definitely a pendant off of a necklace but I think you all agreed on that. Thanks for all your help, the .925 makes perfect sense, don't know why I didn't think of that! Haven't taken it in yet to get the stone ID'd but hope to get it in soon. This was my first non crap jewelry find so I was pretty pumped! Now we have snow and frost so I may have to hang it up for the season, already excited for next year! Thanks for the help!

The stone looks like a peridot, from the pic. I would agree with the other, 18k accents, and your 12E(F) is 925 chopped off or not imprinted well. It will make a nice little necklace, get ya a little thin silver chain, clean the pendant up some.

To get micro shots (the real close ups) of the markings, find a magnifying glass or jewelers loop. Stick it in front of the shutter lens when you take the pic. It works real good for me, to get them close-up micro shots real clear. You may have to play around with it, if not used to doing it. My eyes are shot, I couldn't even read the markings in the pic. :laughing7:
Go find some more! LOL! GL & HH!
