Help with pottery signature.

I purchased this piece and I think it is pretty neat and well made. I am trying to ID the signature on the bottom and what is this piece called? Used for?? Or age? Hard to fully judge based on the bottom but it appears to be a newer piece, maybe last 40 years or so.
