I have looked and I can't find anything. It's Indian made, sterling silver and handmade beads. And 10 strands of something. I want to say sandstone but I don't think that's right. I figure one of you will know. Thank you for your help!

Looks like bone to me.

Take a loupe to it - my guess is shell - but look for capillary pitting for bone.

Good luck -

More than likely shell. The money is in the beads at the top of the necklace.

I agree, looks like shell.

Shell or Bone I'm thinking ??

Puka shell I believe. Some were thicker and less uniform, but many of the older ones looked like that.

Little round washers of white/tan beads.

I have been so busy the last three days that I completely forgot I did this thread. I think I only did it yesterday too but it's been nonstop lately.

I don't believe it's bone, I do think it is shell. Defiantly not ivory or else I wouldn't of bought it I don't need anymore problems on eBay with Ivory. But I do think it is some kind a shell. It was eight dollars at some thrift store here, I think the beads or where the moneys at also. But normally I find those things in their liquid silver so I'm happy to find one with shell. I'll check out the Puka shell . Thank you everybody for your help again. I tell you sometimes this the assessability to this website is priceless! Again thank you all very much!!

Heishi beads made from shell, were popular in the 1970s. Google heishi beads or necklaces and you will see may varieties.

They almost look like polished crinoids.

These are not polished.

Supposedly Indians used them for jewelry. I've never seen a polished example however.

definately shell, machine cut because they all have the same diameter but different thickness. My guess is also 1970's. hand cut beads would vary slightly in diameter.

This looks like something you would see spread out for sale on an indian blanket at a rest stop on route 66 in north east arizona in the 1960's and 70's. The Navajo indians made this kind of jewelry and this area is also Navajo tribal land. there would be several vendors at many stops out there. don't know about now.

Awesome information, thank you very much.

They appear to be shell. However, I cannot be very sure merely by looking at the pictures. If you are shell enthusiast than there are many online companies like Shop LC that make available beautiful shell jewelry. Choose your pick.

I auctioned it did not go for very much. Didn't even break $100 LOL. Thank you all for your help though
