He's still around and seems to be doing OK, just not able to fly....but a good walker, when I see him he just hurries away & hides around corners, kind of funny. Finally got some pictures of him...poor guy, but there's plenty of minnows & frogs to keep him well fed. Can anyone tell anything by how his wing looks in the pictures?

It's too bad concerning it's condition, but my opinion is that nature will take it's course.

Thanks old digger...think you're right. :)

It kills me when I see these kind of things, especially from the results of human activity and their vehicles. I do all I can for me at least to avoid any harm on my end. (like keep my eyes on the road and know the habits of a creature you see on the side of the road). "SLOW THE F*** DOWN" but still I've been guilty with all the precautions I take... As for the natural world effects, that be life in the wild kingdom. Doesn't make it any less sad though. :crybaby2:

Thanks for your caring tamrock. You're right about being aware & careful when driving, so many aren't. I think the Heron will be Ok as a ground dweller, at least while on our property, which he is a lot. The day he showed up like that was the day a part of a dead cotton wood limb (struck by lightening a few years back) fell down, maybe it got him?

Nice photographs! Thanks for sharing...

Kat, it definitely looks like it's dragging that left wing. Hate
to see any critter hurt, but if it's still eating and getting
around it might survive a while. Hopefully the issue will
mend itself in time and the heron will be able to fly again.

Heron's aren't too coordinated when it comes to landing,
and it may have clipped a branch on a landing approach.

Is it able to get up somewhere to roost at night?

If it can't fly then hopefully it'll find a safe home. Having
one around the house isn't a bad deal; Heron's, when they
run out of frogs and fish, will eat mice and rodents by the
bucketful 8-)

ck,

This one has been around for several years in the Windsor Locks Canal along the Conn. River, look at his right wing, can't fly either.

GOD Bless

Chris

vpnavy....

DizzyDigger....he has plenty to eat (plenty of frogs, minnows & mice), thank goodness...and seems to be doing fine other than not flying. I don't know where he roosts but there are plenty of trees he could kind of walk up I guess. I do think he will be OK right now and hopefully maybe fly again, like you said, thanks for the concern. :)

worldtalker....thank you for that picture, very reassuring for this birds future! And God bless you also. :angel1:
