...so...found this yesterday while looking for my usual "small" stuff. Looked at it closer and thought it just might be something, so wanted to check with you "pro's"....it looks worked on one whole edge and smooth on the other.....OK to be brutal, I can take it.....;)

Looks like something they took flakes off of for making various things, and then it made a nice chopper, scraper, and graver imho.

I'm not a pro but I agree it looks some kind of scraper. I would keep it.

quito got the prize on that one

I have a piece really similar to yours. I have always thought mine was a hafted tool. Maybe a flaked Celt or something.??

Nice find, no matter what you decide to call it!!

....:hello2:...happy here! You guys mean I finally (yes me) found a large (for me) tool!? Guess I should get my eyes use to looking for things other than black & small...lol Thank you everyone.:icon_thumleft:

So glad I was able to help!!! You don't know how happy that makes me!! Good luck on your next hunt!!

skull buster................... brains were something prized

Yup- Quito got it-- but as well as being a core of sorts, I think it could also be a hand-chopper like olroy said. It's hard to re-adjust your eyes to see things of a different size/shape than you're used to. Good find! Yakker

NC field hunter...:) & good luck on yours also!

olroy70....:violent1:..yikes!...:O

yakker....yes, hard to readjust the eyes on different shapes, colors & sizes. And thanks! :)

I multitask very well

:) rock....that's a very good talent "multitasking", specially in this area! :icon_thumright:

Thanks rockheadhunter421....so what were they chopping.. don't say "heads"...lol

Kat try to learn to look for the flake pattern on anything, it could be as big as a football or small as a dime.HH

...OK monsterrack...that's a great idea, I'll do that from now on! Thank you...:cat:

There is just so many different colors in this area to look for when hunting. Most is black flint and white quartz but then you have all the grays and the rest. I dont find hardly any green but have found some.

...rock you should post the green ones all together, if you haven't already? You can put them here but maybe want to start a new post on them? When I go looking it's easier to see the sherds & obsidian points/tools..but very hard to see the "rock" ones, cause there's rocks everywhere..very :icon_scratch: !

I have only found 1 and I believe its not finished or a scraper. Olive green

IMO it's like a hand chopper/scraper combo. Choppers are simple cutting, hacking, or "chopping" tools used for meat or wood. Yours is a bi-facial form (flaked on both sides). Do you know what the material is? It looks like basalt to me.
