...so...found this yesterday while looking for my usual "small" stuff. Looked at it closer and thought it just might be something, so wanted to check with you "pro's"....it looks worked on one whole edge and smooth on the other.....OK to be brutal, I can take it.....;)

Im not sure the type it is cause it is the only piece I have ever found like it. Found it near a spring head so it could be from any period of time.

rock...I'm sure you checked the same place for more of the green....so it's lucky that you found that one, it's a beaut!

I think I have a bird or something nesting in my basement roof :sadsmiley: Its loud. I am wondering how the heck it is getting in.

...sure it's a bird? What kind of noise is it making? Had some friends who had a raccoon have babies in their wall once. :0 Get you camera out...lol

Well I came down to the basement this morning and it was in the roof making loud noises. I opened the back door and looked just in time to see 2 starlings flying out of my dryer vent. The dryer is on the top floor so the vent is about 6 ft off the ground. I like birds and dont know if they have already nested or not so I will wait till their babies are grown and fly away then I will fix the vent so they cant return next yr. I thought that it might of been a something else but am glad it is just birds.

That looks like a spall (big piece of flint that smaller flakes are struck from) The best way to know if a tool was intentionally made is to look for the zig zag /\/\/\/\/\/\/\/ when looking down on the edge. What most people don't realize is as soon as a flake is detached from a spall it becomes a tool. The flakes are razor sharp and can be used as a scraper or knife.

rock....what a story! That's very nice of you....U R a good guy! Starlings can be noisy...they come to our bird feeder in large groups & make quick work of it! lol Yes, glad it wasn't something else, have even heard of Bobcats getting into house spaces & having kittens!!! Will your dryer be useable I wonder?

PrimitiveOne....thanks for the information. :)

Well that thought did cross my mind so I got a flashlight and look into the vent. I do believe they were actually using the lint to build a nest elsewhere cause I see no nest. I did see a reed way back so maybe they changed their minds on building after all. I havent heard them in a day or so. Thank goodness cause they were loud.

rock...it sounds like they're gone & like you said, were gathering nest material...so that's good. Ever had a mocking bird singing outside your house at night? Talk about LOUD! lol
