Hey Patriot...I Think I Have Enough! (Updated with "after" Pics)
My strategy is to find the farmer who owns the most land and make him my best friend! I met him this evening and he enthusiastically gave me permission to hunt any and all of his expansive properties. He owns over 1000 acres throughout my area and much of that is very old riverfront property. I started in a field very close to my house that he is in the process of haying and is right on the river. My maps show me that there was an 18th century settlement in this area but I can't nail down the exact spot.
I started in the most likely areas of the field and struck out...then I noticed a stand of old growth apple trees off the edge of the field and decided to give it a try. First signal was was showing shallow, iron and large. I tapped the shovel and the trade axe was just under the surface. The bit is broken but 80% of it is there! This is the 3rd trade axe I've found this year...you would think that they were easy to find...really, they're not. I found the 1st this spring with Patriot when I commented that I would like to find one...now I want to find a cannonball!
