Re: hey wats that thing?? (Emailed John Mc Cain ya never know)

I cant even imagine the set of balls it takes to be able to survive that long in a place like the Hanoi Hilton... I can only hope I would have that kind of strength...

Wonderful find..

Re: hey wats that thing?? (Emailed John Mc Cain ya never know)

still waiting from Mr. John

Re: hey wats that thing?? (Emailed John Mc Cain ya never know)

Excellent find I hope Mr. McCain gets in touch with you. I am a retired AF Reservist of 21 years and also belong to the American Legion. I grew up in a small town in Kansas and used to watch the Military Funerals at the cemetary I grew up next to in McPherson Co. during the late 60's early 70's. I used to go and pick up the spent shell casings I think my folks still have em somewhere. I still get the shivers when I hear Taps. The Plumber.

You could also write a letter detailing the story of your discovery and your research about the man, and then send one copy to a metal detecting magazine, and the bracelet along with another copy of your letter to the V.A. in D.C. Maybe someone there would place it at the Vietnam memorial on your behalf, and then later it would be collected and curated by the staff.

You could mention that you posted it here, and that the story now lives on in cyberspace.

I remember wearing one of those also as a kid. I'm sorry , I'll be honest with you. I can't remember the soldier's name. I do remember it being very important at the time. I have the highest respect for the ones who have volunteered to go in the past.

Well, I am not military, but I thank you all, every single member of the US armed forces for protecting and defending this country.
Sincerely, a grateful citizen.

For all of you that mentioned 'Taps', I wonder if you've seen and heard this version. If you have been in the military, I guarantee this version will bring a lump in your throat and perhaps a tear to your eye.

Great ideas! That would give detectorists some clout with our government and museums.
I served in the Marines from 1971 - 1979. Although I've never had to go onto any campaigns like
so many others I've known, I was and still am proud to have served. Thanks AA for posting your find and Semper Fi Marines!

Taps always has brought a lump to my throat and this young lady's version is no exception. A marvelous job she does with it. Thanks Don for posting it. There are no official words to the music but here are some of the more popular verses:

Day is done, gone the sun,
From the hills, from the lake,
From the sky.
All is well, safely rest,
God is nigh.

Go to sleep, peaceful sleep,
May the soldier or sailor,
God keep.
On the land or the deep,
Safe in sleep.

Love, good night, Must thou go,
When the day, And the night
Need thee so?
All is well. Speedeth all
To their rest.

Fades the light; And afar
Goeth day, And the stars
Shineth bright,
Fare thee well;
Day has gone,
Night is on.

Thanks and praise, For our days,
'Neath the sun, Neath the stars,
'Neath the sky,
As we go, This we know,
God is nigh.
