So I take it that bracelet was issued sometime between his capture in 1967 and his release in 1973..

Sadly, he passed away a few years ago, all I could find... Doesn't have a date just says he died of pancreatic cancer...

HELL of an American..
and HELL of a find...
that he was 8)

Re: hey wats that thing??

you got a "never forget them" pow / mia bracelet -- that one "returned" many never did , --its a historical find in it own right. -- it showed that the american people cared about the POW'S / MIA'S deeply. ---6 YEARS AND 1 MONTH of a mans life in a living hell are in that bracelet. -- feb 4th 1967 to march 4th 1973

Bomar was the man John McCain talked to by "tap code" while McCain was a POW .

Bomer was born June 10th, 1926, he died on May 21st , 2009 in Arizona of cancer of the pancreas.

(correction made)*

Re: hey wats that thing??

My wife still wears a POW bracelet.

Her original POW "came home" several years ago after his remains were ID'd. She sent her everyday bracelet and a note to his mother. Her "dress" bracelet that she was wearing the day we were married went to the Vietnam Wall.

After a bit of research she found another Marine to adopt. After all, she has a soft spot for Marines.

Re: hey wats that thing??

Historic find indeed he was the toughest of tough to put up years of that abuse in the Hanoi Hilton POW camp i was on duty up on the DMZ when the distress call came in that his craft was hit and going down but when it was discovered how far north it was just a few miles from the China border the mission was canceled to send my recon patrol for a possible rescue . That bracelet is a precious thing do the right thing with it  Jim

Re: hey wats that thing??

When I was a kid growing up in the 1960's I and all my classmates (3rd grade,1969),had these bracelets, our teacher's husband was shot down and was a P.O.W. for 3 years. When the war was over I found out my guy came home alive.Let's shoot forwards to the computer age I find out that the guy was living in a tiny town in the Tx. panhandle so I mailed it to him and he mailed me back a really nice letter thanking me.
I 've also now (2010) that they have red bracelet's,I'm just wondering if these are for P.O.W.'s or guys/girls that have passed away.?
