Hi, my name is Gonefishn, I am a metal detecting addict because....

Welcome to TNet, from Nick in Connecticut! :hello:

I would have thought that one was a snakehead

You would have thought correct-some jacka$$ snuck a couple out of the Potomac and dropped them in a nearby impoundment...now there's hundreds...all he got cited was a misdemeanor...

am I correct that you are required to kill them?

It did used to be that way. they don't seem as vicious as they've been said to be-when they're feeding you'll know. Not from here, don't want them here, but are really gun to catch. The government found out while doing electroshocking that native fish float, snakeheads torpedo themselves down into mud/vegetation, usually suffocating.

ever eat one?

Gosh, looked like a Burbot, but heck, are they good eating?

Sorry for the delay- one cannot imagine the difficulty in cleaning these fish, and that was a little guy. As far as tablefare- they taste like a regular fast food fish sandwich...which may be why people say they taste great; if I eat fish, I don't mind the flavor-snakehead are mild white meat with little flavor

Hi Gonefishn, Welcome to TNet from another Virginia member. Looks like some nice finds and hope you have access to that place as I bet you have a lot more to find there. Nothing says that you can't do both freshwater and dirt fishin'!
