I tried checking a new set (new to me) of old foundations and there was quite a bit of evidence of former detecting...probably old and also new as the dirt was still disturbed. The area is loaded with a lot of old metal. I, like other detectorists, laid many of the finds in strategic locations near the site. There were many broken bottles, metal pan pieces, springs, old cans, etc....I wasn't finding much of interest but eventually found a piece of a small metal plane, a belt buckle..looks newer ( Hickok Belt | History ), a pipe knob, lipstick container...and such. It was fun but not all that productive. On the way back to the car I found an interesting small metal wreath..not sure of age. I was excited to find a coin and just had to spit and rub to see it was a copper but hard to read the date....looks like 183? to me. It was disconcerting to see fresh scat on the way out. I put deer scat on the left for size comparison, but not sure what the dark sort of lumpy scat is. I was in New England woods, not far from houses but definitely a wooded area on a hill during the afternoon.

That would be neat to see!

Not if it is mating time as they will aggressively defend their territory and will not only charge you, they will stomp you into the ground. They are best viewed at a distance unless you are carrying some serious fire power and even then, it is best that it is Moose Season and you have a permit to hunt them.

Looks like moose to me, put a few game cameras out, wont take long to find out what it is.

Congrats on your finds. Huntsman53 is correct on his I.D. of your scat pile. It does appear to be from a Whitetail Buck. The pellets on the left are from a Doe. I've been a deer hunter for 35 years, so I feel comfortable backing up his I.D.

Thanks! So you are a hunter in a variety of ways! Thanks for commenting.

YIKES! I hope it isn't moose moving in then!

Really a nice array of interesting relics.

Hi Underwonder, A good variety of finds and a large cent too... I have been detecting 28 years and have close to 800 pcs. of silver, but, only maybe a dozen large cents. Yeah, buck poop.... no moose, where you are.... would be big new's !!! I love old sights like that... you don't find many coins, but, if you do find silver... it will be Good. Good luck on your future hunts.

I never knew you could know so much about poo.

Nice finds. I agree that wreath is special.

I love that eagle piece!!! And that wreath is sure something!!!! Some day I will get back to New England to hunt!!! Taking poo, I had some bear poo outside my back door the other night:) Great finds!!!

Thanks, basssmann. I am hopeful then. I have 3 large cents and 4 small silvers so far! I like relics, buttons, and such but I have to say...finding old coins is even more thrilling. Enjoy the hunt! Maybe I'll spy that big ole' buck too.
