Back when I was admittedly less knowledgeable and immature I just didn’t see the reason anybody would need an SKS.

My trusty bolt gun was more accurate and powerful.

Then after I matured some, I had the opportunity to shoot one. Talk about fun and reliable in the original configuration. By this time they were no longer selling at the drug store for $80 and ammo costs had gone up.

300 yard pie plate accuracy with iron sights all day long. Good Russian fun!

Oh i dont know about $600.
They are always at the Gun Shows here in Gunnison and super cheap but they are a truck gun mostly.

Maybe mine was just a hunk of junk but none of our gun shops carry them because they dont sell.
I do see AKs around and they seem to move and ive had them before too.

I picked up AKs in Iraq and preferred them over my M249 which I couldn't ever depend on.
It didn't like the sand and dust but the AKs never even noticed and there was plenty of them.

Hundred bucks? They were $80 in the 1980’s. I would venture to say as far as the largest number of owners, it’s likely only recently second to AR platforms. Granted the modern gun owner has no time to load another 10 rounds despite WW2 being won with an 8 round capacity, 18 pound battle rifle. The Chinese/Vietnamese kicked our butts in the jungle with these worthless guns (for whatever reason). Am I way off base?

WW2 wasn't anything like Vietnam. We were there to win WW2.
Vietnam was only an occupation, same with Iraq and Afghanistan.
We didn't go there to win anything and we didn't win anything but many casualties.

Agreed, but the SKS has proven to be a useful weapon over the course of several wars. My comment about WW2 was mainly pointed towards the fact that the SKS is frowned upon by some for not having a detachable high capacity mag. when 8 on a clip was enough.

Yeah i wasn't crazy about the fixed mag design either. Rust would have also been an issue over there but its all they had so they used it and made it work.

The Revolutionary War is another good example of how a small underarmed resistance can defeat the biggest most well supplied military in the world.
The weapons used really only play a small part of the overall picture.

Here in Central Virginia, I have not seen one for less than about $500 in over a decade. Certain rarer ones go for much more. Check prices on Gun Broker and you will see.

Ive definitely seen more expensive ones, same with some of the AKs.

Everyone likes different styles and configurations.
I liked my AKs but I needed a truck more so I traded haha.

The sks has had new found popularity. 500-700 has been the current market for them. I remember at gun shows id buy a gun and they'd offer a free sks. I never was interested! They sold at the time for 40-70 bucks.
Its amazing what a firearm can sell for...Bren-ten 10mm=10k
MP-5 with 4 position fire group....45k+....NFA item.
Medusa revolver...10k
SPAS shotgun....3-10k
Various Purdy shotguns...80k-100k+

Even the price of AK's has risen to ridiculous amounts!

Yep! As soon as they banned the Russian imports they skyrocketed!
I dont collect older firearms, but try and stay updated on prices. I occasionally stumble upon firearms that people have no clue what the real value is.
