Hit a new permission today with the girlfriend got this in the field about a quarter mile away was a shipyard owned by the same owners of the field in the early 1800s thinking this is a ships spike it's huge and brass like to think it was from the shipyard any thoughts?

Was told could be 1790s. Shipyard started in 1780. Closed up in 1850

iT CAN BE TOUGH - easily pre 1900s - so its from at least the 1800s or earlier
but 1700s - 1800s - hard to tell sometimes - i'd be willing to say it's mid 1800s to 1700s even
shipyard near by - it can be from when they first started or from when they stopped and anywhere in between

Oh ..I did not read your follow up post with age of shipyard - read the top part and hit reply --so I was spot on with the dating late 1700s to mid 1800s
you wont get much narrower than that

I always look forward to your posts man. That’s a cool spike and the hand wrought brass likely makes it earlier than later in that range. In that date range manufacturing went through tremendous changes. Anywho, I’m sure you’re going to pull some great stuff. Good luck!
