Holy Toledo, Over 100 Coins Today

Just returned from the beach after 6 hrs metal detecting the west coast of Florida with my Excal. Found a total of 114 coins (29 - .25, 17 - .10, 15 - .05, 53 - .01). The first 3 hrs I worked the wet sand and found perhaps 20 coins. As soon as I went to the back beach I could not keep-up. Lots of black sand (love so see it) and yielded pretty green coins. Actually surprised that I didn't find gold, today.



This is a new milestone for me to break 100 coins in a day. Have to go back to find the gold. Also found a round metal disc with “19023”.



I assume that it is a dog tag.

Also found a copper plate (1 1/8” x 1 3/8”) with some type of unrecognizable lettering and with 3 beveled holes for screws. Have to do some electrolysis to clean and reveal the lettering.

That could be construction worker "brass". Before the age of all these electronic swipe cards, when you badged into a large construction project, you'd "brass in and brass out". That was a way of tracking time and personnel.

AAAuuuuuuu Really? Its the second one that I've found. I don't know why but that really grosses me out...Have to put it on my wife's toe tonight when she's asleep.

Well. Just informed the wife that those round metal tags I've been finding on the beach metal detecting are cremation tags. You should have seen the look on her face! She says I should return then to the Ocean/Gulf. I'm thinking that if I can find enough of them I could make a necklace.
I imagine that when loved ones dump the remains into the ocean the tags are part of the contents...wonder who #19023 was? Possibly a metal detectorist who wanted one of us to make a final find...

I agree with Casper: The green clad is more fun It means you're dealing with coins that've been there for years, and that mother nature is congregating the heavier goodies together . Rather than random placement. And yes: that's when you hold your breath and hope the next signal will be gold Congratz on the thick coin day of rapid action.
