Found a swarm of honey bee's today.

Got two coolers and shook them into them and gave them to my sister as she had
a colony collapse last year. Hopefully I get some fresh honey out of this if I got the queen in that mix.

Last summer, two college age girl's with some environmental organization showed up at my door step asking me to donate some money to help stop big Agriculture from killing off all the bee's with harmful pesticides and all kinds of terrible chemicals being used. Told them I have a bunch bee's gathering all the pollen from the Virginia creepers out back right now, so I was thinking they could be wrong about all these bee's gone missing. I've plenty hanging around. Maybe your the one stealing all the bee's they were talking about.?

Lucky you. Mine all died this winter. Gotta buy some more. When I stated beekeeping, you could buy a 2 lb. package for $15.

Lol The "sky is falling" Crowd imagines all types of things.

Last time we had upper 60's here the honey bees were gathering up the Coffee Grounds from my yard.
I imagine when the snow Melts & things start drying they'll be back

There is something going on with the bees and people having colony collapses. They are in decline for sure. Some say monsanto ( R-4-D) round up and such but I still sparay it. Old timer friend made sour wood honey it was like golden amber. He got to old to move his hives back and forth to the North Ga mtns.
I collected these in a short sleeve shirt and no mask and was not stung once. Took 3 trips in to get them all and hopefully the queen. It was a loud buzzing though,Lol
Thanks for the comments.

yea honey bees are like bumble bees . I don't think they will sting unless you step on them, or cause them pain

Good to see honey bees! They are excellent pollinators, and with the extra bonus of honey! I've heard that honey bees have been having trouble lately?

as a shoe less kid running around my yard, I know I stepped on a few.
I don't remember last time I got Stung though .
Been a good many years.

Not being allergic. a bees sting or even Potential sting doesn't prevent me
from my Intended rounds whatever that may be though.
I just bat them out the way, or move elsewhere if they don't get the hint
to fly away :laughing7: yellow jackets are the biggest nuisance if your in their airspace.

I had a Whiteface hornet get me on the back of my hand...I thought I'd been shot.

when you were a kid they had not evolved yet

They will sting when protecting a hive and food but not so much when in a swarm. They are sending out bee's to locate a new home and covering the queen. I was hit by a few black and white hornets and it does feel like you are being shot!

Jeff we have the yellow jackets bad here. They swarm to sting lol

I do remember Last time I was stung it felt like an Electric Shock in a tiny Area.
And the Pain persisted for a few days (by that I mean the spot was tender)
but again, it's been years.

and.... it goes away.
I've always been up for messing with bee nests.
When ever my Friends had bees too close to their Homes,
I'd happily go after the nest.
Yes I'd be retreating quickly on occasion . but that was part of the attraction :laughing7:
see who wins  me :hello2:

more yellow jacket nests around here then hornets.
most hornet nests get seen and dismantled during construction.

now thats a treasure there,i read where they were,or thinking about making drones to do there job.God save the queen.

If I may add to the thread a pic of my hive...we checked inside 2 weeks ago, it was a thriving, healthy hive, with no signs of parasites or hive beetles. The Queen is laying strong with multiple orientation flights each week. Now that spring is here, we are hoping to yield about 30 pounds of honey next week or so.

I'll try to get pics of the process.

I would like a pic of the queen sitting on your tongue please

That would violate Tnet rules.
