I found this cool looking buckle today. Was this attached to a stagecoach or saddle? Or, was it worn?

How old would it be?

Thanks!

What you have there is a bridle rosette. I'm not sure of the age but would guess mid to later 1800s.

Ah, okay, I gotcha. I found a smaller bridle rosette with glass a few weeks ago. I knew I recognized the back of it. :)

Thanks for the ID, gforce!

Thats a nice one. I've never found one that interesting before. Found a few plain ones and a few with a little decoration but nothing like that. Nice find.

I also think it would be hard to date it.

But boy that is a nice one. I'd take that (because it's different than most) over a few crusty coppers.

I got two of the glass domed ones this year. I think IH got a glass one with a picture inside, I'd take one of those too.

Very good find in my books.

Thanks, guys. I'm not sure how we missed it over the last couple of weeks. It wasn't very deep.

Mad skills...:laughing7:

You / we always miss stuff, that's why you / we go back to good spots. If you missed that big honkin target, what else ?

Where I found the french coin, I was there before (twice) and only found lead ?

Your having a great year too, that silver token you got awhile back was a pretty rare find.

Haha, you know it, Rick. It's so hard to overlap everywhere on these large fields. I even had the little coil on...

I want French now! :)

What's little by ML standards ?
I even prefer the 5 X 8 on my ATP (rainy weather machine), and thinking bout tryin 10" on F75 LTD. Bigger does cover more ground, and a bit more depth, but at what cost. Prime example: I took AT Pro to a spot that was trashy for sure with it's stock coil, I found 1 coin, went back with my Omega stock 10" coil, found 10 coins, and 10 buttons, not a lot of difference in coil size, or depth performance in air tests, but a bit smaller coil was soooo much better at target separation, I found 20 times the targets.

EDIT;
PS yeah it gets hard to do a good grid when targets are sparse on 10 or so acres, I have to wonder at some point, and sometimes that pays off too. All fun.

Good Luck out there.

Gio - That's definitely a bridle rosette that was worn on the sides of the horses head. My guess is 1880-1920 on that one. It's a great find! I love finding bridle rosettes and bridle bosses...

Sweet find there...found many over the years but that's one of the nicest one that I've seen in quite some time...

I was using the Sunray X-5, Rick (5.5" coil, I think). It's tiny but I get decent depth for a small coil, when I crank it.
