Hello All,

vp here, I had some time this afternoon so I went to my favorite spot to hunt for a while. The old colonial road goes right thru the middle of a very large group of cornfields - looking at satellite maps and doing some speculating, I've been able to pin it down to where I think it actually was 200 years ago, but the problem is I have only been able to find coins/artifacts on a small section of the road. So I've been second guessing myself a bit lately.

Well not anymore, I found a spot on the other end of the road today and it is exactly where i thought it ran ... now i have a beginning and end point to the road - so working the middle should be fairly easy

ANYWAY - i spent a total of 2-1/2hrs today but only found this stuff in the last 45 mins - so i left pretty happy

2 buttons, 1 has a 14 with a crown above it (don't think that one is colonial though), a piece of metal that has a 1/2 on it, a shot musketball, a part of a spoon handle, and then what i think is a lady's brass ring (???)

also pictured is my 6th copper of the year - another slug :(
and a button that has silver color left on it - this button caused me much distress as you can imagine, i pulled it from the dirt and immediately saw the silver,

i said ok - silver dime ? no too thin ...
OK, my first REALE ???!!!
brushed it a bit and found the stub of the shank - BUTTON !!!!!!
still cursing a bit over that one !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks for looking

vp

ITs hard to imagine my friends KirkPA or ZoyBoy missing that slug. One good researcher recognizes another and Kyle is a good ra-searcher ;) Looks like with alittle map work you were able to take what he has given you and hone in on a spot that hadn't been hit! I like the button and would be so sure that it isn't colonial. I think there is a GOOD chance that it could be ;)

The '14' button reminds me of the French Napoleonic war type?? but looks a little modern to.....?

Nice finds Vpone. Congrats.
Take care, Mike

Hey Sentinel,
Yeah Kyle's a great researcher - we knew there was a colonial road back there and as i tracked where all the finds were they seemed to follow a line that coincided with the terrain - i put 2+2 together and found the road and then just stuck with it - slow and steady

thanks - vp

hey crusader -

PBK & Don in NJ were thinking the button was mid 1750's probably one of the german states, maybe brought over by hessian's during the revolution

Cool finds, vp!

Too bad on the silver button, a coin would have been excellent.

The button with the "14" on it has me intrigued. Maybe someone here on TNet could give us some info on the significance of the "14".

Thanks for sharing.

hey paul,

i put it in the "What is it?" forum and the experts are debating it

http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,139073.0.html

looks to be a military regiment button of some sorts from the 1700's possibly
pretty cool stuff

vp

Thanks for the reply and the link, vp.

Excellent discussion on the button. Since no one can identify it quickly, it may be very rare.
