Low budget so would a new seahunter II for 499 be a good deal and a good salt water detector.

id say that is a good price if it is new with a warranty.just keep in mind its a PI...(Pulse Induction) and the have little or no way to tune out the junk.i dont like digging bottle caps @ 20"
Price is okay, but like Dixie said it is a pulse and you will be doing a lot of digging with it for tiny pieces of iron.
What kind of hunting are you going to be doing? Will you be in the water ankle deep or chest deep?
If it was me, and it's just my opinion only, for that amount of money I would look for good used Whites Beach Hunter ID or maybe a Minelab Sovereign GT or Excalibur. If need be a little more money invested maybe, but a heck of a lot more bang for your buck. There are members here who sale their equipment from time to time and they can be trusted. At this time I have 7 detectors, 2 I bought new, the others were all bought used and every one arrived working as described....I have sold 2 I bought used and got 90% of my money back NOT counting the value of the finds.....
Remember if your going to be hunting in the water more then ankle to knee deep you need a completely water proof detector, one accident and you have an expensive paperweight.
If your water hunting you will need a really good scoop, to go with it and they are not cheap. If your only hunting the wet sand and ankle water you can't beat the Minelab Sovereign GT..............
As the great Sandman use to say why waste time digging when you could be finding more targets.....
