How close do you have to be to get a signal with the Nokta PulseDive Underwater Metal Detector?

If you have the Nokta PulseDive underwater detector and you are air testing it, how close do you have to be to a metallic object before you get a signal when using Sensitivity 1? How about with Sensitivity 5?

I am really having doubts about the effectiveness of this detector.

The pulsedive is basically a pinpointer with about a 3"-4" range on a gold coin.

When I first got my Nokta if I remember correctly, I would get a signal about 4-5 inches from anything metal.

I recently bought a new control unit and to get a signal, now I have to get as close as an inch.
