How do you tell if this thing is anything valuable?

I found this while detecting a park today. I beleive the chanin is/was gold plated b/c it is flaking off everywhere. The charm has something molded in the backside, looks like numbers.

The numbers will help identify if it is of any value, for example 925 or .925 indicates sterling silver.

On chains, if it is silver or gold, there will be info on the clasp. You need a real good jewelers loupe to see them sometimes though.
