How many of you concentrate on sounds more than read out?

My first detector is the DFX so i relied on the screen for ID and depth after a few months i recognized the sounds but still used the screen for how deep ,now i have a Sov.GT without a meter it seems pretty easy to use getting used to the sounds, i think the only thing i will miss is how deep the target is ? the general rule is between 4 to 6 inches anyway with a few exceptions . If need be i can always get the meter to see the VDI numbers and mount it on top of the Sunray probe the control box will be in a hip mount bag . give me a month and ill have that machine cranking :laughing7: Dd60

I know this may sound crazy but on my se pro i don't dig the crisp clear high tones ,i dig the low tones with the faint high tone only. maybe wrong but my "keeper" finds tripled when i started doing this. every time i dig a good solid signal , crisp and clear, good target id it would be clad coins, or pull tabs etc. on the smart screen i only watch for a bounce from top left to top right . sometimes bounce top left to bottom right . All metal no discrimination. I tried the whole iron mask thing and it seem to slow the response up to much for the signals.
seems like when coins, jewelry get deeper on the edge of detection the id goes to lower scale . throw a nail in the hole with it and you gotta mess : )
I am hunting in very iron trashy, pull tab areas keep in mind. good clean open feild and i would use screen more. seems like if an area isn't junky in tennessee you will not find anything. Everything gets burnt and torn down here no matter how much historical importance it has . Cows are top priority . I think any method you choose sound will be the first to signal you as possible target. may be different in your area so the first line of my statement may loose you alot where you are. it just works for me here in tennessee, i am hunting for coins only by the way.

Started out with excal - Sounds - GT - sounds - Treasure_Hunter a dispaly

is what u put your finds on when taking a picture of them.

now i have SePro strapped on my back in waterproof box...............Sounds again..............but the buttons really do some added really nice features to the sounds and the way u hear them and the difference in tones.......e t c...........

deep wet sand targets never read true on meters.......and tones will vary also.........pennies that are all crudied up and have growth do not read as pennies, but sound really good.

now Treasurer_Hunter, we need to find out where this hunter hunts: "To only dig low growls on an Excal "

merry christmas

Treasure_Hunter and Max are right. To many think the display has to be right as why would the manufacturer put it on there if it wasn't accurate. You are better off placing duct tape over the display.
