How rare is it to find arrowheads in Southern Ohio, specifically in creekbeds?

I'm going to be visiting my grandparents at the end of the month, and they live like 20 minutes from Serpent's mound. I plan to metal detect in the river that goes right next to serpent mound (but at another point in the river). I always metal detect rivers and creeks with a snorkel and mask so I'll see the bottom really easily.

How common are these things in a place like that? Am I likely to find one if I keep an eye out for them?

And while I'm at it, I'm hoping to find some old bottles in the creek too. Any chance of that?

you know the detector won't show arrowheads right?

actually there should be lots of indian artifacts in southern ohio, as many tribes liked to gather at kings island

lol yeah that's why I mentioned I wear a mask and snorkel when I detect in rivers. My head is under the entire time. Here in Michigan I keep an eye out for marbles and fossils and bottles, but rarely find any. Just figured it would be amazing to find an indian artifact.

I will have to ask........What is up with your avatar pic? Just saying

It was just a goofy pic my wife took, I was even wearing swim shorts because there were people at my house and we were drunk.

idk

Thank god for that. Im sure you have been asked before?

Yeah I've gotten some crap from people on tnet for it. My defense is that it shows less than if I were standing in the open with swimming trunks on, and nobody would complain about that.

I think you will find some stuff in the creeks. Look for the flint flakes. Often times man used the same sites that ancient man did. A good site is a good site so you may kick up some relics as well. Here I hunt creeks and will metal detect civil war bullets and pick up arrowheads as I go along. Look on the edges for flint flakes and hunt the gavel areas then snorkel the deeper stuff. Trick is learning to see them.
Let us know how you do.

I hunt the creeks in southern WV and have found some points. However my friends in Ohio do much better in the creeks and around the Ohio river.

Theres artifacts to be found in creeks in Ohio, good luck.

The waterway near Serpent Mound isn't a river, it is Brush Creek. Brush Creek has a mud bottom for the most part so finding artifacts may not be tat easy to do. As far as artifacts in southern Ohio, well I have found close to 15,000 of them in 50 years so yes there are lots of them here.

Dang that's a real bummer to hear. Hopefully the crossing I plan to do won't be all mud because I was really looking forward to some nice detecting in it to cool off!

There are spots where it it a rocky kind of bottom but that normally just as it winds around the cliffs and gorges and then it is mostly solid rock bottom. There are lots of fields along the banks in that area and all around that do produce artifacts. I hear that it's hard to get permission anymore though.

I was just looking in a native artifact book and ALLOT of stuff in it came out of Ohio.
