Detector(s) used
Garrett GTI 2500 & XL500 SEAHUNTER-PULSE
;D
I got the urge to go metal detecting, this afternoon, so drove about 15 miles to a small town to check out it's HS foodball field. Normally, they keep it locked up when school is not in session but I got lucky and the gate was open. I pulled in and got out my Garrett 2500 GTI detector and proceeded to hunt around the perimeter of the field and around the refreshment stand, etc. I couldn't walk three feet before I had to dig coins and they, mostly, were quarters. In three hours I dug up 54 clad quarters, a 1943 Washington quarter, a "no date" standing liberty quarter, 20 clad dimes, 2 nickles, and 20 memorial cents. It started to get dark enough that I couldn't see what I was digging or my finds would have been greater. I'll have to go back another weekend, if the gate is open. Not bad for three hours hunting.

If you so much as step on the football field in my town (let alone digging holes in it), any time of the year, and you're not a football player, you would probably be shot down dead by the football coach. I'm only half-kidding. :P

You've got a potential silver mine there...keep hitting it!

Great buch of coins.
I hope they keep coming for you!!
Have fun,
Salvager

Good finds sir

Great hunts. Very nice pile of quarters. And of course not one one but 2 silver ones SLQ included. That is very awesome.

Congratulations,

If you can get the trash and clad out of the way, there might be some more silver there. Nice finds.....

Well, I made it back to the High School football field, today. I thought that I had done well the first time that I was there as shown in my original post, but, today, I popped up 84 clad quarters, 23 clad dimes, and 18 memorial cents. I was digging quarters so fast that I passed over many dimes and pennies and just ID'd the quarters on my screen. I didn't find silver, this time. The gates to this field are, usually, locked when school isn't in session which accounts for the bountiful supply of coins. Today, there was a basketball tournament so the gates were open and I slipped in to the football field area for about 3 1/2 hours. All of the knee bends about wore me out.

Clad ahoy! DO like we told you before - cut a hole in the fence and keep it closed with zip-ties so no one notices...

They always say "3rd time is a charm" so, today, I drove the 15 miles to the High School football field to see what I might have missed the other two times. I don't remember when I have hunted a place so full of quarters. It's like someone walked around the area throwing quarters and other coins onto the ground. Today, I popped up 57 clad quarters, 6 clad dimes, and 12 memorial cents but no silver. I hunted for about three hours. I think that I may be getting the area "skimmed". The snow is gone, here, and the ground is good for digging coins.

Swanie1, what a great 3rd haul from that field!!! Congrats. How deep are these coins on average? Does your detector find deeper stuff, maybe the silver is deeper? How old is the field?

WTG...Great Finds!

Way to go on those finds. Gotta love quantity sometimes even if they are clad! That SLQ is a sweet one too.

Dang it, that gate must have been locked for years, super bunch of clad and some silver also, Wow

The temperature got up to 49 degrees, today, so I decided to drive down to the High School football field to see what I may have missed on my three other visits. I thought that I had pretty well skimmed the area, but I was wrong!!!! This place is what I would call "quarter heaven". I couldn't believe just how many coins, especially quarters, that I was popping out of the ground. I found all of this in areas that I had, previously, been over. It goes to show you that you don't hit every square inch when you hunt an area. Today, I found 83 clad quarters, 41 clad dimes, 3 nickles, and 13 memorial cents. In four trips, there, I have dug a total of 438 coins of which 278 were quarters.
