jtw: Meant no offense with the "Ancient Roman dude" comment...I looked
at it, and that was the first description that came to mind.

Now, after looking at about a gazillion ancient busts, I'd have to go
with SkaBa's Alexander the Great, King David (the Bible guy) or
Demetrius I of Macedon.

Looks a lot like King David, only the lips are a bit more pronounced on
your version.

looking at some pictures of Roman busts on the net, I found one very similar with a similar head band and it was attributed as 'Roman bust of an athlete'

It could be absolutely anyone. Without an inscription, it's anybody's guess. I have to wonder what it matters? Unless it's an ancient sculpture, then it's just plaster.

In that case what would anything matter here on the tnet lol

Very hard to pinpoint who it is of, considering the huge amount of people it could be. And artists' portrayals can have discrepancies between each other, especially when there are no photographs of that person. I hope someone gets it though.

Also, what is it made out of, how old does it look? Victorian? Newer? Ancient even :laughing7:.

Edit: Here are three different busts of the same person, Brutus, notice the difference in each bust. Age of subject plays a big part.

Natural material or some type of plaster? Is it cast/machine made, or hand carved?

I believe it is a cast but I'm not positive and I think some sort of plaster

It looks 19th century to me, ancient style busts were pretty popular in that time. People had a fascination with Greek and Roman culture then, similar to the ancient Egypt fascination after the discovery of King Tut's tomb in 1915. Very hard to tell who it is depicting, I recommend you Email an expert in the field of Roman or Greek history. I don't know much other than basic ancient history. Good luck!
