1802 draped bust large cent, belt buckle with a design on the front haven’t been able to make that out yet. A couple of buttons and a D buckle.

Early federal Eagle. The engraving was done with a “wiggle tool”. I’ll demonstrate the tool and show how it was done later today when I get back home.

Wow! That is an incredible find! I think it’s a cartridge box plate, or a cross shoulder plate. But could be a belt plate also. Congratulations!

Thus is what the tool looks like.

You just press the tool against the metal, then move it forward rocking it back and forth.

Here’s two different sizes of wiggle marks.

I did a quick shield and tail feathers with the larger tool. I should have used the smaller but I’m still on my first cup of coffee.😁

A skilled engraver would only use the wiggle tool to add detail to borders and such. An entire engraving with a wiggle tool says amateur to me.
