I love digging old iron artifacts, but goodness to betsy they become like one of my kids by the time I am done.....so much time and attention! This one took a lot of electrolysis and soaking in distilled water baths. DSC09982.webpDSC09980.webpDSC09994.webpDSC09991.webpDSC09997.webpThis lock has double sides, both identical with bell flower motif and insignia. The bolt is pretty large so not so sure if it was from a door or not. There seem to be holes for securing to something but why is it double sided and how did it attach. The maker mark if that's what it is looks like the New York Yankee emblem(obviously not). Anyone got info on maker and age and usage?

How about NH&Co. Stands for National Hardware Co. They were big in the 1880's or so. I cant make out the scroll type lettering worth a darn.

Wow, that's fantastic nhbenz ....Thank You for helping with this one. I still do not know how it was used or what it was bolted onto. There is no flange around the perimeter but it was made to be seen, for sure. The old home site would have dated to this period so it matches up nicely, but not so sure if this home would have needed a huge deadbolt. Life was pretty serene in the town then.
