I reluctantly passed up a high coin count yesterday in order to obtain coins with higher denominations. The school that I hunted was definitely a target-rich environment for clad coinage.

For every quarter (18) retrieved, I passed up a 5 zincolns or dime targets. My strategy was to avoid the time spent digging useless zinc cents to cover more square yardage in hopes of finding a high value object.

The pennies you do see recovered, were those finds when I exeperienced more than 5 minutes where I didn't dig anything at all.

I'm one of those types where I need frequent finds or I'll experience boredom with a capital 'B".

Which would you prefer? A 3.0H 100-coin day or finding one key coin in that same 3.0H valued at whatever the face value of the 100 coins are?

Looks like you had yourself a pretty good day. The only thing wrong with just digging quarter readings, is that you miss the jewelry and sometimes other quarters that are masked by funny signals.

The soil here in Ohio is so dry, that you can't just pick and chose the coins you want to dig. I got a signal the other day, thought it was a dime and it ended up being a Sterling Silver Charm. You just never know. But if you just want to dig the bigger coins go for it, that will leave the other goodies to the guys who don't mind digging a few pennies and dimes to pick up some really nice jewelry finds.

Looks looks good to me, change is always a fun target.

I see your strategy, I'd use the same to get to better stuff first.......after that, it's dig everything. Whay kind of token/coin is that last one you're holding?

I will agree 100% with this. 2 of the gold rings I found were masked by pennies. After digging the pennies in two different cases...I found 2 of my quality 17 rings...I do not count junk as rings..

Now you need to ask yourself this...What would you rather have 20 or so quarters no pennies and six dimes.....OR> A mixture of clad with a gold ring. I know there is someone who posts here all he digs is quarters...think he just hit his first ring of year by accident.....Ringfinder great point! ;) I bet 90% of the gold finds at least will register lower then a quarter....

I should have elaborated a little more when I initially posted my strategy. The strategy for this particular hunt was aimed at quarters. I did pass up zincolns and dimes with non-silver VDI numbers on my Spectrum. I could distinguish between a clad dime 70-84 versus a silver ring or dime at 86+.

That particular token (no cash value) is from a local arcade. There is no date on the reverse side. The token is distributed by Palace Entertainment.
