Hunt at a local school expecting clad, brings some very old surprises.

Went to a modern local school this morning for an hour, wasnt expecting much more than some clad and maybe a silver ring or two, within 10 minutes...BAM!! first signal! an 1824 Large Cent :tongue3:

how strange is that I thought, then about 5 minutes later, 2nd signal, a dateless Half Cent. the small chain was looped in the hole, you can also see where someone tried hammering a square nail into it. Definately a place to search again. this was in a nice mowed soccer field so I wont be battling pricker bushes like I was while hunting the foundations. I was thinking that they may have been show and tell items from the school, but the 2 wheat pennies I found in the same area are telling me otherwise. Also found a small pin and some clad, maybe the pin is gold, maybe not, no markings to tell.

A two copper day at a mowed soccer field. It doesn't get any better that that. Get back there as soon as you can. Great finds. :thumbsup:

boy are you lucky, they won't allow me in any of the ball fields.. kinda stinks for me on that end.. alls I can hunt is the playground tot area..and I have yet to find anything but junk and clad... maybe they brought in good dirt from somewheres, I'd hit that baby many more times. :thumbsup:

Yeah, maybe. In this area what they do is tear down churches and schools and re-build on the same property. Sunday ill try to get over there for an extended hunt, and maybe hit the library during the week and see if I can find out what the deal is.
