Hunting down a new Roman Site...

Spent a windy 2 hours 45mins on a new target field. It has a good crop mark on it but the Winter Wheat stubble was less than ideal to see the usual signs. After some effort we found some Roman pot shards & some bits of lead.
It took awhile but I did get my first Roman Silver of the year (plus 1 other large Roman Ses.). Terrible condition, but means we will return when conditions improve.
New Site confirmed for now.

It's funny, I'm an avid gatherer of local historic places and the amount of times I've researched a place, manages to get that all important permission from the landowner only to come away after countless hours swinging my coil unrewarded.
My most productive permission is in a location where nothing ever happened and I was reluctant to even bother at first, as it turned out, although a lonely place nowadays. Back in the medieval era ot was quite a busy little area. No records other than a farmstead linked to an old monastery but the best place I've ever hunted for sheer number of coins and relics.

There is indeed. Just recently I went on a local permission that was absolutely infested with shell casings and bullets, on finding my second mortar frag I thought it best to just leave and find somewhere new. The farmer subsequently told me there was a camp just down the lane during the war and they used the hillside I'd been detecting for practise.
Not really my thing militaria and munitions. Which is a shame really because I am for some reason the king of the musket ball, those things are like magnets to my coil. I reckon I gave more in my garage right now than the local museum

It looks like it spreads over 3 fields, so a small Roman Settlement. I hope for some Roman Silver but gold isn't likely.

3o3 round from world War II, probably aircraft related. I was getting crashed aircraft bits.

I found a fired .303 military casing metal detecting here in Canada on the same day you found the bullet. I think mine was made in Belgium. Just trivial co-incident but a bit interesting. They certainly were not both parts of the same cartridge!
