Hunting for Civil War History!!!! In the Snow!!!! What's wrong with us
?
Sunday was a great hunt despite the weather. We are definitely a special kind of metal detectorist. There are many more out there like us so I don't feel like I need to be committed anywhere! Ha, ha! Myself, Alan and his friend Jason (who is now hooked on the hobby and is searching for the right detector) and ole' Schloopy came down to my neck of the woods for a hunt at the site that's been producing all those CW bullets that we've dug the last 3 or so weeks. Great to have friends come down at anytime but special when they risk loosing their car insurance just for a few prized relics, lol!
The hunt got off to a good start with the lot of us sporadically finding a bullet here and there. There were a few times that we happened into a spot where the bullets were clustered together in a small area. That's always nice! Of course Schloopy with his great prior planning had to first, before the hunt, tape up his boots with duct tape, and then 30 minutes into the hunt stop, go to the local department store and buy batteries for his Green Machine. From now on, I'm gonna bring extra just for him. LOL! Oh, and then a couple hours into the hunt I hear him yelling at someone.....He was getting crank calls on his cell phone from someone that said that he'd better have their 16 dollars or they were gonna come down there and well....I'll let you figure out where the phone call went. I have too say that it's always an interesting hunt when Schloopy is around... He's the greatest though!!!!!!!!!
We all did well as you can see. The pics of us just show how die hard we are for a good hunting spot. Now, when you look at the pics of us in our group photos just concentrate on the finds and the snow..... Not the snot dripping from our noses.
We did find a few relics this time which are hard to come by in this area. The harmonica reed is a nice addition since it is whole and if you'll look at Oberkills post, or in the pic with the finds displayed in Jason's hand you'll see the bridal rosette that Jason was so proud of.... It was the last dig of the day as Alan and myself sat there and watched Jason dig and curse the ground....... What a find huh
? We were both very proud of Jason as this was his very first time metal detecting....
As always, it's great to get together with good friends no matter the weather. Always nice too meet new folks willing to sacrifice their health for the hunt......LOL!!!! Thanks guys, I had a great time. I hate to say it but I will be in Florida for the holidays, in Venice, FL......on the beach and of course the machine is going with me. Maybe I'll hunt, maybe not. I'd like to bring something back nice to post.
Hope you all have a great Holiday!!!!!!!!!! I look forward to our next outing.
Merry Christmas All!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
