I started this thread at the request of some posters following Sandy 1's thread, A Guide to Vault Treasure Hunting. A very good thread with a lot of signs that I have seen myself.
In treasure hunting lore, sentinels are guardians of buried treasure usually associated with some secret society descended from the KGC. However, it seems that the title "Sentinel" has grown to include many people who have no connection with any such group. If you tell somebody to be safe in the field, you're a sentinel. If you question an interpretation of signs, you're a sentinel. If you suggest that some research is flawed, you're a sentinel who is trying to stop you from finding all the gold. Well, I guess I'm a sentinel.
I used to do volunteer work at a state park in Iowa. I did a lot of jobs that kept me moving around the park. On a few occasions, I came across somebody using a metal detector in the park. Whenever that happened, I informed the person that Iowa had strict laws about recovering artifacts in a state park. I told them that if the park ranger saw them using a metal detector, he could arrest them and, if convicted, the penalties could be severe, but I never tried to stop them and I never called the ranger. I guess that makes me a sentinel.
If any of you other sentinels would like to share your stories, feel free to post them on this thread.
