I have been detecting for a year now and the garret ace 250 does not seem to get enough depth so I want to get a AT pro any ideas. How deep does the pro go and is it consistent in depth. Is it a good machine for the price. Will it be reliable and is there a better machine for that price because I don't have lots of money so prolly not very much more money then the pro. Please help with personal experiance please help.

It's a good value for the money. It does go deeper than the Ace 250, has better discrimination on iron, and can ground balance to adjust out mineralization in your soil. There are a lot of choices in that price range, but if you like digging coins, jewelry and relics, it is a good all purpose unit. Call me for special Treasurenet pricing if I can help you with your decision.

I have found quit a bit with my AT Pro, but I have been using my CTX mostly.

I have found wheat cents to 6-8 inches and larger coins 8-9 inches. I found a Mercury that was a good 2 inches below my Sampson shovel blade, so it was at least 8 inches. Its a good detector for general MDing, but a little chattery, although I have taken my CTX and found things that I missed with the AT Pro. I would expect this with a $2300 detector.

Get use to detecting in Pro Zero Mode right away - if you don't you will be missing the deepest targets - use Pro Custom for really junky spots with the common junk notched out. Learn to locate the shallow targets right off the front tip of the coil with no need to hit the pinpoint button and locate the deeper targets right at the top of the shaft using the pin point button. Change the batteries at the one bar mark. Use a pro pointer for fast recovery. . . a screw driver to coin pop the shallow targets and a narrow slit in the earth to get down to the deeper ones - no need to cut a big ol' ugly plug. The main thing is to just get out and use the detector.

I will try and call but would just like you to give me your honest opinion on if the at pro is good and if there is a better one for a better value. How deep does it go. Can it get a smaller coin deep and or rings deep because the Garrett ace does not seem to pick up any rings.

The Ace250 will pick up rings. The gold rings tend to show up on both sides of the nickel and around the pull tab range, depending on the size of the ring and karat weight.if you are digging everything that sounds off in jewelry mode and not finding rings, then the coil hasn't gone over them, or they are over 6-8 inches deep.

The AT Pro will go deeper, approximately 3-4 inches deeper than the ace 250. Depth depends on how much mineralization is in the soil, how much trash metal is in the ground, moisture content, etc.

I personally use the AT Pro and the Minelab CTX3030 on most of my hunt sites. The At Pro is extremely sensitive to jewelry and hits loud and clear on coin signals.

Go for it!! I love mine.

Yes I had an ace 250 and then the tek 4000 . And was happy with the ace , the tek not so much , but when I got the atp pro I finaly knew I had the right detector for me , went back to spots I've hunted out with ace and tek and wound up with a nice find of chipped up gold as I showen in another post , I've found a lot of old silver just like today in the water and the bottom was full of loon crap and was so black and heavy sounded like a suction cup with the shovel but the pro found the silver coins nicely ! They were only 4-5 inches but like insaid was in that this black loon crap sense mud , thank goodness for my pinpointer so I didnt have to use my fingers to much, pro Zero and 25 discrim and finding silver and gold , mind you not Everytime !!! Hope this helps your desicion , sorry for spelling and grammar it's late and eyes are tired

I got an ATPro early in the summer....found ring #7 this past weekend. But your ace would have found all of these rings aswell. The ace is a great machine to start on. The rings have to be in the ground to find them, i had to learn this with silver coins....Anyway, the atp is deeper for sure. In my soil: 10-11 in. on a quarter and 8in on dime. This is where they still sound good but your readout is not real accurate. After about 6-8in down u rely on the sounds of the /ATP and not the screen....the waTERPROOF is nice, battery life is avg., weight is avg., For me, pinpointing is much more accurate with the atp and the DD coil than with the ace. I would definately chose this machine again. I think it is a good choice and good next machine after the ace. Definately learn to use the pro mode ASAP....it will increase the targets that u dig, thus increasing good finds.

I like my AT Pro. The first find was an ancient nail at over 10" - 12" in my back yard. It goes deep enough! Lol!
As a noob it takes getting it wired but with your Ace experience it should be a natural progression.

Metal detectors are like guitars, there is no one detector that can do everything.
Why not have several!:laughing7:

Good luck with your decision!

I own an AT Pro, and where I live I am not going to find gold bouillon, I am not near any Oceans, I just like being alone with my dog swinging in the privacy of a scouted out home site. Do I think it was worth the price? Sure do. I dug silver, in our clay soil, at 10 inches without a problem. I found many cool items, some deep some not so deep. Yes, I hit the same places a few times and found items I didn't the first time around. I assume it was me, not the detector. Just last week I hit my parents house again, and found a silver quarter which I saw once the detector hit it. I know I swung there before, or did I, but right before my eyes was the edge of a silver quarter. I laughed and thanked my Pop for it.

Bottom line, yep I think it is a good buy for the price, get the smaller coil if you can afford it; you'll thank me for recommending it. There are some good dealers on this site, check them out, there are some not so good dealers too, be careful. Wayne is a good one at MetalDetectingStuff, and so is Bart at BigBoyHobbies, both will help you any way they can, they will answer all your questions and quote you a fair price too. Good Luck!

Just to be clear I have no affiliation with either business so don't flame me for recommending them, I am just a guy that had the pleasure of doing business with these guys and both are first class.

The ATP is well worth the extra money over the 250. You must be patient at 1st because the learning curve is much bigger.

I would recommend the at pro without hesitation. I have found seriously good stuff and deep. obviously a detector like the ctx 3030 will beat it. But the detector is amazing for the price. See the detailed review i did on my blog. I hope those links post with the iphone app im on!
