Congrats on the detector, the XT 70 is a very nice machine and about as lightweight as it gets for a good detector however, I gave two women Archies a demo class on metal detecting and they both complained about it being heavy after 20 minutes. I would suggest you get one of those small weights and practice swinging to get your arm in shape if you are an average person and do not work out. I also heard the salt water interferes with the depth some but still does well on the salty beaches. Dig it all the first several hours of use, small pieces of jewelry sound like trash sometimes. Good luck and let us know how you do. HH, Mike

Congrats Kelly!
You can't go wrong with a Minelab.
The 70 is a great machine. Just take your time, and have fun!

I do think you should think of digging your own holes though!

I see you mention that it gets cold there. We are at 14 degrees today. So, I think many of us would enjoy your definition of cold!

Best of Luck! Hope you really enjoy the 70!

You just dropped some major coin on a detector. Do your research!! Get maps and hit every beach you can in Florida, especially on the west coast...Go out there and use it everyday and (maybe) it will pay you back!

I just bought one of those for myself. I have about 10 hours on it now and love it. I traded a 2500 for the x70 because of shoulder issues and couldn't handle the weight of the 2500 anymore.

For those that wanted a link, go to www.minelabowners.com
You will have to register and wait for a confirmation email but it is a good site with lots of useful information in there.

Even if you don't own a minelab, I would recommend the site the everyone. It really has a lot of good stuff on there.

I hope you like finding corroded zinc pennies on edge, because that is all that is left to find.

The new cutting edge of treasure hunting is spelunking old storm drains.

Perhaps in doing your research you could acquire some maps of old storm drains in the area?

um...ok.. weird!
