What's new

I Can Not Believe This! *New Info*

I wish every last detectorist had $2,000.00 floating around in their pockets!!!!

Everyone is always worried about what others are doing and seem to spend more time pursuing ways to stop people from doing what they enjoy in life. Instead they should be trying to find something they can enjoy and leave others alone. Maybe if we all just sat in our houses and watched TV, we could all get along???

I just asked the NRA to pull their convention from Louisville. I won't be attending, first one freedom and then the next - ad nauseum. My pursuit of happiness is being infringed. Your taxes, should be your park.

I would have just found another park to hunt and tried to stay out of sight.

"The mission of Metro Parks includes “protecting these lands and resources for future generations.”

The simplest and cheapest way of fulfilling such a mission is to keep people completely out of the environment.

That process takes no thought at all. No decisions, just simply lock the gates.

After all, people walk right on the grass sometimes, if you let them in unsupervised.

Think of the moneys that could be saved by not having a park system. In salaries alone, the city savings could amount to hundreds of dollars each year.

It's a shame the Louisville establishment has had to take a position. Once taken, they no longer need to think about it, just enforce. Not much thought applied to the decision either, in my opinion.

You folks are reacting like it's the first freedom you've lost in recent history. You better take a close look at what other freedoms you've lost, and what else you're about to lose.

This is government of the people, by the people, for the people? I think not. This is government of by and for government.

Unregulated exercise of power for powers sake. It can an does effect us all.

When government is promulgated by regulations issued by individual departments or groups, you get government without control.

Sadly that is the state of this nation, state, city, and counties, in general. Power being exercised for powers sake alone, without the application of wisdom, and sometimes without even the existence of knowledge. In light of the other freedoms we've lost during my lifetime, this parks issue in Louisville is trivial.

Thanks for your time and attention. This is my last post on the subject.

when you asked for permission, all you did was give someone, something to do, to keep you from enjoying your hobby

Sniffer, NO ONE ASKED FOR PERMISSION!

However, these guys and others were getting booted and threatened with arrest almost every time they detected for nearly a year before going to city hall to question the legality of the ban.

They were not asking permission they were trying to fight injustice.

If it only happened once or twice or even three times over a period of years and at only one or two parks then no big deal. but this was almost every single time all over the city. and after the second time of being caught by the same parks guys things were starting to turn ugly even violence was threatened by the parks guys if you were caught again.(illegal of course) But that's why something had to be done.

The rule had to be challenged for the benefit of all.
Who knew that the city council would want to ban a hobby without so much as even a meeting with the hobbyists.

Buddy~

"Detector Owners of America"

If metal detectors leave holes in our parks, then....
--pencils miss spel words
--cars make people drive drunk
--spoons made Rosie O' Donnell fat
--and guns kill people.

From the metal detector owners of America!

guns don't kill people, husbands that come home early do. Git Er Done

sorry, didn't see the beginning of the post.
It just plain sucks when people have to spoil what you do, to amuse themselves
lets leave it buried in the ground, so future generations can enjoy it. ??????????

Unfortunately all it takes is one idiot being seen leaving holes all over the park to get that ban the detectors ball rolling. Or one busybody jumping to conclusions when they see somebody cutting a plug. Detecting during off hours is not an effective or legal option for our friends in Louisville. Any detectorists in Louisville that belong to the NRA might want to try and influence that fine organization not to have their convention there.

Don't know, but what I'm getting from the letter is. We're going to ban detecting unless we can get our grubby hands in your pocket for a fee or license, and..... if you find anything we'll take it & secret it away until you forget about it and then sell it or add it to our own collection.

My question is what does is mean? Sound familiar? When is something an artifact or an item of antiquity? It certainly isn't either when rotting away under the ground. And it never will be if it is left there to eventually disappear. In the interest of preserving same it would make much more sense to allow hobbyists to recover any such items for public or private display. At least someone could enjoy them. Given the rationale behind the proposed law change in Louisville, it would behoove the City Fathers to go to the museums and remove all the artifacts and take them out somewhere and bury them so they would be "preserved". After all they were originally discovered somewhere outside the museum weren't they? And what about clad coins? Turning them in to the City wouldn't possibly get them back to the rightful owner, but would merely fatten the city coiffures. Or a smart detectorist could go to city hall and say, "Yep, that's my change I lost at the park last year, it's identical to mine so it must be mine. I am being facetious of course but the law makes about as much sense. Monty

If my previous suggested lawsuit isn't your answer. Then I suggest you find out who the Mayors likely apposing political party candidate will be in next election. Then lobby this individual for his or her support to overturn the law during their reign in office. In return offer a large number of likely votes if the person does this. Show them a petition with real numbers. It must be in the thousands though, so I suggest you talk reason with the average person. Like tell them about all he good MDers do. Then downplay the role of Archies and how they work with public funding only and will most probably never get around to finding any of the small treasure we unearth everyday. Wouldn't hurt to also show them such private displays like the shark museum from one of T-Nets regulars.

Good Idea !

& In the case of it possably being a close race it only takes a few voters.

of course empty promises are their game at times.
but worth a try.

Also what about Coin shooters Looking for Fresh Dropped Change ?
Is it illegal to detect for Fresh Lost Items ?

Are they waiting for them to be Future Antiques ?
Allowing Litter to Build up ?

Will it also be illegal to look down & Pick up a Quarter ?
Kick the Leaves ? make sure no children in the park
lift a rock. may be something under it.

In PA State Park Rules you must use a Narrow Device like a Screwdriver.
Perhaps this could be alllowed.
Anything less then 6" deep is either fresh or Disturbed anyway.

When you find sharp metal Objects other places save them.
After your hunt Stop by the park to relax.

Then go visit the Mayor & Tell him you found the Object in the park
laying under the Sliding board.

Have everyone do this regularly.
Write a Letter to the Editor.

Title it Parks Unsafe for Our children.
Add a Pic of Needles etc.

Tell your Story.

month later have somone else write saying, Ya Know I never believed it
But today I Visited the park. Got down to smell the Flowers
and Kneeled on a Rusty Nail. Ask in the letter if Parks can be Sued
for leaving Metal Laying around ?
& Also ask what the odds of their child kneeling on a Needle are.

Once a week Put a Lost ad in the paper.
Lost Ring, Bracelet, Family Brooch, etc.

Go to the city for permission to search for it.
If they refuse.

use a letter writing Campaign in the paper.
City Prevents Recovery of Lost Items. :evil4:

If they say they will send someone Hound them till they
Find your Fictional Lost Brooch. :evil4:

Follow like a Puppy, & Insist they are trying not to find it. :evil4:

Swing Here, Swing Here , Swing Here

What was that noise ? Maybe that's it !

Dig ! It may have Sunk in !

Dig ! Swing Here ! Swing Here !

Your Not Trying !

I'm Gonna Sue !
:evil4: :evil4:

another Headline for Letter to Editor.

City Parks not for Recreation.
Look only !
Being saved for Future Generations to enjoy.

Guerilla MD'ing at it's best. Jeff for Generalissimo!
Done the trash and hazzardous material thing many times around here. Half a dozen live 9mm rounds in one playlot here last summer.

If your town is like mine, chances are very good there's a hoard of bent nails in the woodchips. Nails survive the chipper very much intact.

Broken glass is part of my pickup pile also.

You need to let people know you are helping, not hurting the parks. Do not forget the number one bane of park MD'ers, canslaw. You all know where it comes from, park employees who think aluminum cans are natural occurences and need to be cut.

Like I've said, MD'ing is not for the faint of heart!

Political campaign checks are long over due, club members.

Perhaps it would be time, for someone who actually has the resources to do something about this to step forward. Wouldn't it be in the best interests of the company owners of Minelab, Whites, Garrett etc. to start fighting some of these laws? Who's going to buy detectors when there aren't any places to use them?
