🔎 UNIDENTIFIED I can't find out what it is

I found this rock in Arizona and can't find out what it is, it measures about 1 inch high x 2 inches wide x 21/2 inches long and weights just a little over 2 pounds. Its not magnetic and my Minlab equinox 600 will not detect it. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I did a density test and it was 9.2. I have surched the internet and haven't seen any rock density that high. I will have to find a geologist to look at it. Thanks

Volcanic rock with quartz?

My guess is you have a nearly solid chunk of mineral. Looks like Arsenopyrite with some malachite staining, possibly looks spidery due to weathering away of other minerals.

I’m a total novice but it feels relatively plausible.

I think the density is too high for Volcanic rock.

"Density" requires the units to be specified. If you mean "specific gravity" (which does not require units to be specified) and you have measured it correctly, there are no rocks as such with an SG as high as that. It would have to be an ore-bearing rock with a significant amount of native metal.

That narrows down the possibilities a lot. Among the common native metals, only silver (10.5), lead (11.3), mercury (13.6), gold (19.3), tungsten (19.5), and platinum (21.4) or admixtures of them could push the SG of their host rock up to that level.

My bad, I meant specific gravity. Sorry everyone... So wouldn't a metal detector detect it? It doesn't.

it looks like air dry clay dried into volcanic rock that may have been sanded down into a triangle shape. Maybe it was suppose to be the base of an artist's sculpture.

I doubt that it was at the base of Herq

I doubt it i found it at the base of the Harquahala mountain. I searched all around for hours and didn't find anything like it. Guys at the Rock and mineral show in Wickenburg Arizona couldn't figure out what it was either.
