Your smaller button is a navy button. If you can read the backmark someone will be able to give you a date range.

Your "Great Seal" US Army button's backmark appears to be "L.A. Myers Jr. Inc. Newark NJ"... which indicates it is indeed from the World War One era, as you guessed.

The other button appears to be a post-civil-war-to-1943 US Navy button. Your photo shows at least "some" of the letters in its backmark. Please clean it a bit more and tell us the backmark, which could help for narrowing the time-period.

Edit-note: Duggap and I were typing our replies at the same time. Mine took a few minutes longer because I had to research your great Seal button's "L.A. Myers" backmark.

Thanks guys, I'm going to try & gently clean the smaller one more. Some letters are coming out but not enough to decipher. The larger one clearly says L..A. Myers, Newark on it, that much I've been able to see

Thanks for cleaning and re-checking the backmark, and reporting what it says.

Time-dating your US Navy button:
1- The "plain block" lettering
2- being marked "Prov. R.I." (Providence, Rhode Island)
3- the eagle's head looking toward the viewer's right.
Having those three characteristics IN COMBINATION means your US Navy button dates from sometime between approximately 1900 to as late as early-1943. (In 1943 the Navy changed the emblem on its buttons to having the eagle's head looking leftward instead of rightward.)

If you ever manage to make out the name above the "Prov. R.I." please let us know, because we might be able to give you more-specific information about it.
