I asked my wife the other day to buy me a few rolls of Nickels do i could fill out my holes in my collection. well Easter had me busy with the kids and work so i did not get to open the rolls until last night and what a surprise i was in for.

I opened the first roll and found a few i didn't have, but in roll number 3 of 5 i got my first bis surprise, i noticed the roll was a little uneven before i opened it but i thought it was just the coins that was a little crocked inside, (I NEVER EXPECTED THIS) a 1880 5 dollar Gold Coin was laying there smiling at me.. could this be right,, was i so tired that my eyes was playing a game with me.. i asked my wife what she saw and she confirmed it YUP a 1880 5 dollar Gold coin.. GOD DANG.

now if anyone can help me grade it from the pictures i would be happy.

Well the local Coin dealer is more generous than you guys.. he paid me 210$ for it.. no question asked.. he said the grade was XF but according to my red book that's only 170$ so he cheated himself

Russian gold coin in roll of nickles..

I can tell you that this does happen. I was with my mother back around 1979. We were at Walker's Market in Tiustin,Ca. The little market was bulldozed in 1989. Going thru the checkout line mom busted a roll of nickles. Several fell to the floor and rolled away. Mom was born in 1912 and lived thru the Great Depression so she went after those nickles like a heat-seeking rocket. I had noticed that one of the nickles had rolled under the checkout counter. I got down on my hands and knees and using a paperclip fished it out. It was a Russian 5 Ruble gold coin. I gave it to mom and she went ballistic.

Awesome find for CRHing! If you need the cash sell it, looks a little rough around the edge anyway and the gold content alone should bring several $$$. I think the bad economy should make CRHing better than average these days with many surprises. Congrats and HH, Mike

I tried CRH for a while a couple of years ago, but gave up after a few months without any really good finds. Your post, my friend, makes me itch to go to the bank and get back into it!
